Hi, I’m Morgan Henry!
I am a mom, entrepreneur, introvert, and a life-long learner. I have a passion for organization and execution. Here is what you need to know about me:
I have been a bookkeeper since I was about 8 years old. My parents each owned and operated their own businesses in addition to a few joint businesses. I was the bookkeeper for everything.
Growing up, I loved the game of Monopoly. It is a game of learning how to effectively manage luck and strategy. I’ve learned that being able to quickly and effectively respond to circumstances are major components of my everyday adult life.
I am a MN licensed Certified Public Accountant (CPA) with a Bachelor of Arts from Gustavus Adolphus College in Public Accounting and a Masters of Business Administration from St. Mary’s University of Minnesota.
I have two amazing young children. James, whose life revolves around all things tractors and farming. Monster trucks and construction equipment are close seconds and thirds. Cora’s life revolves around dancing, animals, princesses, and all things fashion. If there is music playing, she is dancing; most likely wearing sunglasses, stick-on earrings and a princess dress with a fancy hair updo while carrying a purse.
My husband, Jason, is the biggest supporter of my ambitions and keeps me sane as we manage the chaos of life. He’s truly wonderful, extremely handy, and makes all my complex house project dreams a reality.
In my, currently non-existent, free time, you will find me reading a good book, researching something of interest, crafting with my Cricut, or playing the piano (I was a music minor)!
One thing you will quickly learn is that I’m efficient, detail oriented, thorough, and very intentional in everything I do.
My Background as a CFO
In my previous life, I worked my way from entry-level accounts payable specialist to Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Questar Assessment, Inc. (Questar). I took a gander to test the waters of large company life at Thompson Reuters, Inc. and Allianz Life Insurance Company of North America on the way and learned that I thrive in small to medium-sized organizations where I can see the impact I’m making.
I was recruited back to Questar to start their Financial Planning and Analysis department. While in that role, I assisted with the $127.5 million sale from private equity ownership to not-for-profit ownership.
My final days with Questar were in the CFO role. While in this role, I was the lead on the sale of the majority of Questar’s assets to a different not-for-profit. My final responsibilities included winding down and closing what remained of Questar post-acquisition.
The meaning behind the name…
According to Google, Serendipity means: “the occurrence and development of events by chance in a happy or beneficial way.”
2020 - 2023 were years of immense change for me and my family. The culmination of these unrelated changes and events led to the birth of Serendipity Accounting and Business Advisors.
Becoming an entrepreneur was something I thought I would never do. Especially after growing up with two entrepreneurs as parents; it’s a different lifestyle. The unknown component was intimidating and made me extremely uncomfortable.
Finding another CFO position was comfortable. I knew how to work in that capacity. However, none of the offers or companies felt like the right fit.
As luck would have it, starting this business was the amazing culmination of all the changes and seemingly unrelated pivot points in my life thus far. It is truly beneficial for me and for my clients and I couldn’t be more excited!
